Telangana High Court Initiates Suo Moto PIL Against Dumping Of Construction Debris Into Hyderabad Lakes

The Telangana High Court has taken up yet another PIL for the protection of two lakes located in the Chandrayangutta area of Hyderabad, which are alleged to have become a dumping ground of construction debris collected from the upcoming metro project in the area.
The PIL was taken up by the Chief Justice's Bench on Tuesday, following a letter addressed to the Executive Chairman of Telangana State Legal Services Authority by Justice Priyadarshani.
In the letter, Justice Priyadarshani highlighted an article published in the Times of India titled “Metro Project Kick Off Leads to Trespass Around Old City Lakes.” The article told tales of individuals from the area who complained of debris and sand being dumped into the lake beds of the Jalpally and Umda Sagar Lake.
Notices have been issued to all concerned departments including Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, Revenue Department and other Municipalities.
