The Rajasthan High Court recently allowed a student, whose candidature got cancelled due to failure in uploading documents, to participate in the counselling for IIT-admissions.
A single bench of Dr.Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati passed the interim order in a writ petition filed by a student named Divyanshu Meena, who got Rank 838 in JEE (Main) and 704 in JEE (Advanced) in ST category. The petitioner stated that based on his rank, he had given his options in the online seat allotment process. However, due to some technical glitch, he could not upload his Class XII certificate and medical certificate within the prescribed time limit. Consequently, he could not move to the online payment portal. This resulted in his candidature getting cancelled.
Saying that his two years of efforts went in vain simply because of a technical glitch, the petitioner invoked the writ jurisdiction of the High Court, seeking to restore his candidature and participate in the counselling process.
Directing the copy of the petition to be served on the standing counsel for the Union Government, Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) chaired by IIT Gauhati Chairperson, the Court posted the matter to July 18.
"In the meanwhile, the petitioner shall be permitted to participate in the counselling process for the current academic year as per schedule provided by the respondent. However, the same shall not be given final effect to without permission of this Court", the Court added.
The petitioner was represented by Advocates Aditya Sharma and Manvendra Singh Bhati.
