High Court Issues Notice On GSPLs Plea For Lodging FIR Against Punjab Locals For Allegedly Halting National Gas Pipeline Project

The Punjab & Haryana High Court has issued notice on plea filed by Gujarat Government's undertaking, GSPL India Gasnet Limited seeking directions to Punjab Government to lodge FIR against locals allegedly stalling National Pipeline Project.

Justice Vinod S. Bhardwaj has issued notice to Punjab Government, other authorities and listed the matter for May 02.

In 2017, the Central Government felt necessary in public interest that for the transportation of natural gas from Gujarat's Mehsana to Bhatinda, Punjab a pipeline should be laid down by GSPL, a Gujarat Government's undertaking, the petitioners submitted.

It is alleged that when the project was being implemented, the land owners of Bathina's Tehsil Talwandi Sabho, started creating trouble and threatening the officials and also tried to damage the machinery.

The plea submitted that the Additional District Magistrate Bathinda had issued instructions to SSP to provide police support in order to complete the project but despite that the local administration is not providing adequate support.

The petition sought directions to the State to register FIR against locals for detaining employees of the company, threatening to kill, damaging the vehicles and stalling the government project.
