The Punjab & Haryana High Court in the late evening issued notice to the Punjab Government on habeas corpus plea filed for farmers' leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal who is allegedly illegally detained from the ongoing farmer's protest

While issuing notice to the Punjab Government and Director General of Police, Justice Manisha Batra stated in the order that, "This petition has been received at 6:45 pm making prayer for issuance of a writ in the nature of habeas corpus for release of detenue Jagit Singh Dallewal who is the farmer leader of Joint Forum Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) who is in illegal custody of the respondents."

The plea filed by farmer leader Gurmukh Singh stated that on 19 March 2025, Dallewal, who has been on hunger strike for more than a hundred days, along with other farmer leaders, participated in the seventh round of talks with a central delegation led by the Union Agriculture Minister.

While returning from the meeting to the ongoing protest site at Shambhu and Khanauru borders, the Dallewal's convoy was intercepted by the Punjab Police near the Jagatpura area in Mohali.

The detenue, along with other leaders were detained without prior notice or explanation, leading to clashes between farmers and the police, it added.

"300 to 400 others members of farmer organization were also missing," the plea stated.

The petitioner sought direction to produce the detainee in court and prays for any other relief as deemed fit by the court.

The matter is listed for March 24, for further consideration.

Advocates Gurmohan Preet Singh, Angrej Singh and Kanwarjit Singh filed the plea.
