Justice Sheel Nagu Sworn-In As Chief Justice Of Punjab & Haryana High Court

Justice Sheel Nagu was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today. The oath of office was administered by the Governor of Punjab.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had been without a regular Chief Justice since the retirement of Justice Ravi Shankar Jha in October 2023. Justice GS Sandhawalia was serving as the acting Chief Justice until Justice Nagu's appointment.

Justice Nagu was serving as an Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

In December, 2023, the Supreme Court collegium had recommended Justice Sheel Nagu's elevation. The Central government notified his appointment on July 04.

Justice Nagu enrolled as an Advocate on October 5, 1987, and practiced on Civil and Constitutional sides as Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur.

He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the MP High Court in 2011 and later appointed as a Permanent Judge of the High Court.

It is pertinent to note that the High Court currently has 54 judges against the sanctioned strength of 85.
