Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court Dr. Justice S. Muralidhar presided over his Court for the last time this morning, as he demits office on superannuation. He shared the Bench with Justice Subhasis Talapatra, the Chief Justice designate of the Court.

Three Public Interest Litigation (PILs) were listed before the ceremonial Bench for hearing, out of which two matters were related to environmental issues and were permitted to be withdrawn and the petitioners were advised to approach the National Green Tribunal (NGT) instead.

The hearings were completed within about three minutes after which some lawyers made their farewell references. Former Advocate General of the State of Odisha and Senior Advocate Surya Prasad Misra complimented the Chief Justice for his initiatives in bringing a revolution in digitization of State Judiciary and said that his contributions for the Bar was ‘unfathomable’.

Speaking to the lawyers from the Bench, for the last time, Justice Muralidhar said relation between the Bench and the Bar has quite improved, both at the High Court and District levels. He also said that the Bar of Odisha has huge potential and many of the young lawyers are doing very well.

“They have role-models before them to emulate. The women lawyers are doing very well. I must mention that in particular, irrespective of age they are doing very well, working very hard. The future of the Bar is looking very bright here,” he added.
