A plea has been moved before the Kerala High Court by the wife of deceased ADM Naveen Babu seeking a CBI investigation into her husband's tragic death.
CPM Member and former Kannur district Panchayath President PP Divya who was accused of abetting the suicide of Naveen Babu was granted bail by the Thalassery Sessions Court in the first week of November.
The plea stated that ADM Naveen Babu was found dead in his official quarters on October 15, 2024.
The plea alleges that ADM Naveen Babu faced public humiliation from Divya during his farewell function. It is alleged that in her speech during the farewell function, Divya had accused the deceased of corruption in connection with the NOC for opening a fuel outlet and threatened him. It is also alleged that Divya made the speech and left the function before the memento was handed over to the deceased to humiliate him. It is also alleged that Divya invited local Television channel to cover this event with an intent to publicly humiliate ADM Naveen Babu.
The plea further stated there has been no progress in the investigation even though a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to carry the investigation. It is also alleged that the SIT has not collected crucial evidence like CCTV footage and was only attempting to conceal evidence and aiding the accused in fabricating evidence.
The plea stated that CBI must investigate the matter and find out the reasons behind her husband's death and stated that the possibility of homicidal hanging cannot be ruled out. It is also stated that an investigation must be conducted to find out the persons whom ADM Naveen Babu met after the farewell function and an investigation should also conducted to find out the facts and circumstances leading to his death.
“Currently there are circumstances raising serious questions about the cause of deceased's death. Whether it was by suicide by hanging remains doubtful. The rushed manner in which inquest was conducted only deepens these concerns,” alleged Manjusha K, the wife.
