The Kerala High Court has sought State's stand in the anticipatory bail plea filed by Malayalam film director Akhil Marar, booked for discouraging contributions to the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF), through his statements following the Wayanad landslides in July.

The matter came before the bench of Justice C. S. Dias, which asked the Public Prosecutor to seek instructions.

Marar has been booked by the Kollam Rural Cybercrime Police Cell under Sections 45 (abetment) & 192 (provocation to cause riot) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 51 (obstruction of officer or refusal to comply with direction) of Disaster Management Act (DMA).

He allegedly made some statements through his Facebook account, saying that the Chief Minister is not the person who rescued people from disasters, rather he misused the disasters to earn profit. Marar also said he would rather build 4 houses for people who had lost homes than contribute to CMDRF.

He contended in his bail plea that he is falsely implicated in this case by the political party workers to wreak vengeance and that he had only expressed his suggestion through the post.

The matter will next be heard on 27th September.

The plea is moved by Advocates Sasith M.R., Sithara Hamza Kizhakoot, R. K. Chirutha, Neelanjana Nair, Anjana Suresh E., Reethu Jacob, Nanma B. B., Riya Kochumman, Lidhya George
