The Karnataka High Court has requested the Chairman of the State Bar Council to find a way to mediate the dispute between the two factions of lawyers in Kittur Taluk, so as to maintain harmonious relation between the members of the Bar.
A single judge bench of Justice Suraj Govindaraj made the suggestion while dismissing a plea filed by the Bar Association, Kittur, challenging the resolution of the Karnataka State Bar Council cancelling the registration of the Bar Association, Kittur, dated 07.03.2010 and recognizing the Advocates Bar Association, Channamman Kittur in its place. The Court found that there was no locus for the petitioner to fiile the plea.
“The advocates profession being a noble and learned profession, I am of the considered opinion that it does not behove well for the advocates profession for two groups to be formed and/or there being acrimony between those two groups. The litigations may be filed and may be disposed, but the advocates would continue to be in the profession,” it added.
Referring to the petition and objections filed, the court noted that there are disputes between two groups of advocates who have formed themselves into two different associations.
Accordingly, it suggested the State Bar Council to intervene in the matter. Many a time lawyers would appear together and also oppose each other and they should not be doing so with this acrimony in mind or background, it added.
