74-Yr-Old Travels To Karnataka High Court In Ambulance For Settlement Of Her Partition Suit In National Lok Adalat

A 74-year-old, Lalithamma travelled in an ambulance to the Karnataka High Court in Bengaluru, to get her 14-year-old partition suit amicably settled before the National Lok Adalat, held on July 8.
A bench comprising Justice K S Hemalekha and Advocate H. Pavana Chandra Shetty, interacted with her while she sat in the ambulance and on confirming the terms of settlement, Justice Hemalekha returned to the Bench and passed the Lok Adalat award in terms of Compromise Petition.
A total of 34,76,231 cases were disposed of at the National Lok Adalat held across the State on Saturday. As per information provided by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, a total of 1,020, Lok Adalat Benches were Constituted, which disposed of 2,50,344 pending cases and 32,25, 887 pre-litigation cases.
Among the other notable cases disposed of at the National Lok Adalat included:
-Before the Bench of Justice K. Somashekar a case was settled for Rs. 1 crore 15 lakhs.
-A 63-year old Civil Dispute case was settled on the file of Prl. Civil Judge, Hubli.
-A 41-year-old Specific Performance Suit on the file of Prl. Senior Civil Judge & CJM, Gadag was also settled.
-A couple who were litigating before the Harihara Court for the past 13 years were reunited after attending the Lok Adalat.
-In Kolar, a suit for Specific Performance was settled for Rs. 1 crore 46 lakhs.
-In Mysuru a suit for Specific Performance was settled for Rs. 2 crore 42 lakhs.
The total settlement amount was calculated at Rs 1,911 Crores.
List of cases which came to be settled were as follows:
-A total of 1,874 Matrimonial Cases, wherein 243 couples were reunited due to conciliation at National Lok Adalat.
-Total 3,844 Partition Suits were settled.
-A total of 5,007 Motor Vehicle Cases were disposed of; compensation amount awarded is Rs.224 Crore.
-A total of 11,982 cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act were disposed off.
-615 land acquisition execution cases were disposed and a total settlement amount of Rs. 141 crores was recorded.
-Other execution cases settled were a total of 4,921. The total settlement amount recorded was Rs 234 Crores.
-A total of 98 cases under the RERA Act were are disposed off and Rs 14 Crore was paid as compensation.
-A total of 180 consumer cases were disposed of and a total award of Rs. 6 Crore was awarded.
Chief Justice Prasanna B. Varale, who is also the Patron-in-Chief, KSLSA, Justice G. Narendar, Executive Chairman, KSLSA and Justice K. Somashekar, Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee, appreciated the efforts put in by the stakeholders for the success of the Lok Adalat.
They expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended by the Judicial Officers, Advocates, litigant public, insurance company officials, bank officials, Government Officials and also press and media.
