The Karnataka High Court has made available access to e-ILR Karnataka series (Indian Law Reports) in bilingual format—English and Kannada.

The e-ILR, has been launched to provide free access to the Karnataka series of ILR (Indian Law Reports) and Karnataka Teerpugala Varadi. It is designed for Judges, Judicial Officers, Advocates, Litigants, Government Officials, Law Students and the Public in general. The URL for the said portal is https://hck.gov.in/ilr

The press note issued by the Registrar Computers N G Dinesh, says that “This initiative aligns with Phase III of the e-Courts Project as a part of knowledge management by creation of online learning platform as a learning management system which will consist of a comprehensive and updated repository of reported and reportable case laws of the High Court of Karnataka.”

The bilingual e-ILR portal also accomplishes the objective of the AI Assisted Legal Translation Advisory Committee's goal of introducing digital law reports with translated judgments in vernacular language.

The e-ILR portal contains 2000+ e-SCR reported Judgments of the Hon'ble Apex Court in nearby translated form (Kannada). Same is uploaded parallel to the English version of the Judgment. Similarly, the translated Judgments of the High Court of Karnataka are also made available in Kannada language. The Judgments made available in e-ILR portal contains Neutral Citation assigned by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India and the Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka for their respective Judgments.

The portal not only contains Judgments of the High Court of Karnataka reported in ILR with editorial head notes, but also contains all reportable Judgments of the Court. The e-ILR portal improves access to justice for all by reaching them in the language known to them, in the digital form at their fingertips. This initiative of the High Court of Karnataka replaces the conventional mode of publication by print media and also offers invaluable resources of law especially to the persons who are involved in the legal field and also to reach the general public.

The above portal was officially launched by the Hon'ble Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, The Chief Justice, Supreme Court of India on 16.12.2023 in a programme arranged at the High Court of Karnataka, Bengaluru for launching of e-Initiatives-2023 of the High Court of Karnataka.
