Ex-CM Hemant Soren Moves Jharkhand High Court Seeking Regular Bail In Money Laundering Case, Hearing Tomorrow

Hemant Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, has filed a fresh application in the Jharkhand High Court seeking regular bail in connection to a money laundering case related to a land scam.

He has urged for an immediate hearing on the matter, which is scheduled before the bench of Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay on Tuesday.

Soren has been in judicial custody since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31 in connection to the money laundering case. Earlier this month, on May 22, he withdrew a petition challenging his arrest by the ED from the Supreme Court after facing criticism for not disclosing the filing of a regular bail plea in the trial court.

Following his resignation from the chief ministerial position before his arrest, Soren is currently detained in the Birsa Munda Jail in Ranchi. The allegations against him revolve around accusations of involvement in manipulating land documents for a plot in Bargain, Ranchi.

Notably, the Supreme Court on Wednesday (May 22) dismissed as withdrawn former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam in Jharkhand.

After a vacation bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma expressed disinclination to entertain the matter, Soren chose to withdraw the petition. The bench orally observed during the hearing that the petitioner had not disclosed facts relating to the Special Court taking cognizance of the complaint filed by the ED.
