Gujarat High Court Issues Notice On Father's Plea Alleging Illegal Detention Of His Daughter By Persons Living In ISCKON Temple

    The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday (December 24) issued notice to the State on a habeas corpus petition moved by a man claiming that his daughter has been illegally detained by certain persons who used to allegedly live at Ahmedabad's ISCKON temple.

    A division bench of Justice Sangeeta K Vishen and Justice Sanjeev J Thaker in its order took note of the averment's made in the father's police complaint dated July 10.

    The court thereafter said, "Considered the submissions. Issue notice to the respondents returnable on 09.01.2025, to be served through the concerned police station".

    The plea claims that the petitioner's daughter left on June 27 with 23 tola Gold ornaments and Rs. 3,62,000 cash from her father's residence. The family inquired about her in the neighbouring houses but they did not get any satisfactory answer. The petitioner has alleged that, he came to know, that the respondent no. 4 in "collusion" with and with the "help of" seven other private respondents (Respondent No. 5 to 11), had taken away the corpus.

    "It is humbly submitted by the present petitioner that it is to be come into the knowledge of the present petitioner that private respondent No. 5 to 11 who are generally live and give the Sevadan Shram into the world famous isckon Mandir situated at S.G. Highway, Ahmedabad," the plea states.

    The petitioner has claimed that 5-6 months have passed however he is not able to get any information about the life of the corpus and police has not taken any appropriate action to find his daughter. In view of the same, the petitioner has prayed that the high court may direct the police to produce the petitioner's daughter before it.

    The matter is next listed on January 9, 2025.
