Gujarat High Court Launches Free Of Cost And Cashless Medical Facility For Judges, Staff And Their Family Members

The Gujarat High Court has taken a step in ensuring the well-being of its workforce by introducing free and cashless medical facilities for its judges, judicial officers, staff employees working in the high court and their dependent family members.
This initiative, launched under the guidance of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and the Judges of the High Court Medical Facility Committee, aims to provide accessible healthcare without financial burdens.
High Court Medical Facility on Campus
To address the healthcare needs of its employees, a dedicated medical facility has been established within the High Court of Gujarat's premises. This facility offers various essential health services and is staffed with doctors assigned by the Department of Health & Family Welfare. General medical services are available, but the facility does not provide speciality or super-specialty services.
Partnership with Government and Grant in Aid Super Speciality Hospitals
Recognizing the need for advanced medical treatments, the High Court has partnered with seven government hospitals to extend free and cashless healthcare services. These hospitals include renowned institutions offering specialized and super-specialty care, such as cardiology, cancer treatment, ophthalmology, and kidney transplants.
The hospitals designated to free of cost medical treatment are:
(1) GMERS (Gujarat Medical Education & Research Society) Medical College and Hospital, Sola, A'bad (colloquially known as Sola Civil Hospital)–for the diagnosis & treatment of diseases and ailments of all kinds,
(2) M&J Western Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (M&JWRIO)–for the diagnosis & treatment of disease and ailment related to eyes and vision,
(3) Government Dental College & Hospital (GDCH)–for the diagnosis & treatment of disease and ailment related to teeth and gums and
(4) Government Spine Institute & Physiotherapy College (GSIPC)–for the diagnosis & treatment of disease and ailment related to backbone, spinal-cord & vertebral column
Meanwhile Memorandum of understanding has been executed with three hospitals which will provide cashless medical treatment wherein bills for payment will be generated for reimbursement after the treatment is given to the patient. These are:
1. U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre–for the diagnosis & treatment of disease and ailment related to heart & blood circulation through heart
2. Gujarat Cancer & Research Center–for the diagnosis & treatment of disease and ailment related to cancer or detection of cancer or carcinogenic effect in the whole or any part of body
3. Institute of Kidney Diseases & Research Centre – Institute of Transplantation Sciences–for the diagnosis & treatment of disease and ailment related to Kidney, Liver, Gastro. and Gynec. as well as Kidney dialysis and transplantation of Kidney and Liver
Employees and their families can access these healthcare facilities by following a simple admission procedure. For planned admissions, a referral from the High Court Medical Facility is required, along with an employee identification card. In emergency situations, admission can be facilitated with immediate proof of employment, and formal documentation can be provided later.
The high court medical facility provides various services including Hospital Administrator, Allopathy General OPD, Ayurvedic OPD, Homeopathy OPD, Physiotherapy Department containing 23 equipments and one bed, which will be present on "every working day" between 10:00am to 6pm. The facility also has an Indoor ward consisting of four beds with Oxygen Concentrators. It further consists of a Triage Department for 'emergency' treatment consists of 3 beds, ECG facility & Oxygen Concentrator. Additionally an MD Physician will be present every every working day between 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and an Orthopedic Surgeon will be present on Mondays and Thursdays between 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
