Supreme Court Collegium Proposes To Make Two Gauhati HC Judges Permanent

    The Supreme Court Collegium (SCC) on Tuesday (January 07) recommended the appointment of two Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court as Permanent Judges.

    The SCC in its meeting held on January 07, 2025, approved the proposal for appointment of the following Additional Judges as Permanent Judges in the Gauhati High Court:

    1. Justice Kardak Ete, and
    2. Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita.

    Justice Kardak Ete was elevated as the Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on March 13, 2023. Justice Ete completed his LLB from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University and enrolled as an Advocate in the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh & Sikkim in the year 1999. He was designated as Senior Advocate in 2014. He was also appointed as the Additional Advocate General for the State of Arunachal Pradesh in 2011. He was appointed as Senior Additional Advocate General in 2016 and as Acting Advocate General in 2021.

    Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita was elevated as the Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on April 20, 2023. Justice Kalita obtained B.Sc. degree from the Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati, and thereafter LL.B degree from the University Law College, Gauhati University in the year 1994. He further obtained LL.M degree, from Gauhati University, in the year 1997. After obtaining law degree, Justice Kalita enrolled as an Advocate under the Bar council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh & Sikkim on September 23, 1994, and practiced, mainly in district courts, for a period of about four years. He also served as a lecturer in the J.B. Law College at Guwahati from 1998 for about two years. Justice Kalita joined the Assam Judicial Service on May 10, 2000.
