The Delhi High Court on Tuesday (December 24) issued notice on a plea moved by the Yuvraj Singh Foundation seeking registration under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) expeditiously, in terms of applicable laws and scheme.

Justice Sanjeev Narula sought response of the Union Government and listed the matter for hearing on January 30, 2025.

In the interim, the Foundation has sought permission to receive and utilise foreign funds until the grant of the FCRA certificate.

The Foundation is involved in providing monetary support for treatment and education of paediatric cancer patients under the age of 18 years belonging to marginalized sections of the society, spreading awareness about breast cancer across the country and conducting free screenings for breast cancer.

It is the Foundation's case that it had applied for renewal of its FCRA registration on January 13 last year. The authorities rejected the application. The Foundation has claimed that the same was done after a delay of more than one year by passing a non speaking order, without granting it any opportunity of being heard.

The Foundation has said that due to such rejection, it is unable to effectively contribute to children and the needy who are in urgent need of medical treatment, and are unable to continue free screening of breast cancer.

The petitioner Foundation is represented by Advocates Devadipta Das, Chaitanya Poonia, Nainshree Goyal and Raghav Bherwani.

Case Title: Yuvraj Singh Foundation v. UOI & Ors.
