509 Principal, 5204 Primary & Nursery Teacher Posts Vacant In MCD Schools, Delhi High Court Told

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has informed the Delhi High Court that the process of filling up of vacancies to the posts of teacher and principal in its schools is under process.
The civic body has submitted that 509 Principal/Head Master posts are vacant. The promotion of head masters is in process, the Deputy Director Education, MCD, said in the affidavit.
While 37 posts of special educator (primary) are also vacant, the vacancies of teachers at primary and nursery level is much higher. A total of 2683 Teacher (Primary) and 2521 Teacher (Nursery) posts are vacant.
“Requisition is being sent to DSSSB and these teachers will be recruited on top priority basis after receiving the dossiers of selccted candidates from DSSSB,” the MCD said in respect of vacancies at primary and nursery level.
The data has been submitted by the MCD in a status report dated April 11 in response to a contempt petition moved by NGO Social Jurist in the year 2016.
“That it is most respectfully submitted that the filling up of vacancies in the school of answering respondent/ MCD is still under the process,” the status report states.
The civic body has also said that the vacant posts for Special Educator will be filled very soon as the cases for appointment are in process.
The response has been filed pursuant to an order passed by Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora on March 07 directing the Delhi Government and MCD to file a status report placing on record the information about the vacant posts.
The court had also directed the authorities to specify the steps being taken by them to fill up the vacant posts and the date by which the vacancies are expected to be filled up.
The matter is fixed for hearing on May 23.
