‘Don’t Pose A Flight Risk Owing To Their Professional Standing’: Delhi High Court Permits Prannoy Roy, Radhika Roy To Travel Abroad

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday permitted journalists Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy to travel abroad from July 25 to August 15, observing that they don’t pose a flight risk owing to their professional standing.

“Owing to the professional standing of the petitioners [Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy] and their ties to India, they don’t pose a flight risk. The petitioners are permitted to travel abrod,” Justice Prathiba M Singh said.

The court disposed of an application filed by the Roys and permitted them to travel abroad, subject to the condition that they will provide details of their itinerary to the Registrar of the court.

Justice Singh also directed the duo to furnish an undertaking stating that they shall return not later than August 30. The court also said that other conditions will be added in the order.

Senior Advocate N Harihan appearing for the Roys submitted that both of them wish to travel abroad for business purpose and also for the personal reason to visit Prannoy Roy’s brother.The application was opposed on behalf of the respondent stating that investigations are pending against both Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy.

Granting relief to the Roys, the court noted that the duo was also permitted to travel abroad last year by a coordinate bench vide order dated June 01, 2022.

“Considering the reasons given in the application and the fact that this court on June 01, 2022 permitted the petitioners to travel…the petitioners are permitted to travel abroad,” the court said.

The application was moved by the Roys in their plea challenging the look out circular which was opened by Central Bureau of Investigation pursuant to the registration of two FIRs dated June 02, 2017 and August 19, 2019.
