The Delhi Government has told the Delhi High Court that ladies washrooms and drinking water facilities shall be provided within three months in all District Commissions in the national capital.

A division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan was also informed by the Delhi Government that the department of food supplies and consumer affairs will provide infrastructural facilities without insisting.

Needless to state that the State Public Works Department (PWD) will coordinate with the Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs, GNCTD,” the court said.

The bench, also comprising of Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, accepted the statements or assurances and undertakings given by the Delhi Government and held it bound by the same.

It directed the Delhi Government to file a fresh status report in the matter within four weeks and listed the case for hearing on April 23.

The court was dealing with a batch of pleas, including a suo motu case initiated last year, concerning the issue of facilities and vacancies in the consumer forums.

The pleas were moved by NGO Dignity Restoration & Grievance Settlement Association (DRGSA), Sangram Singh Kochar and Ved Prakash Aggarwal etc.

Petitioner Sangam Singh Kochar had claimed that the consumer courts in Delhi were inadequately staffed and lacked proper infrastructure.

The court had earlier asked the city authorities to file a status report giving the particulars about every consumer forum district wise.

It had added that the particulars must include the number of sanctioned posts of the members of the consumer forums, actual incumbents as of date, sanctioned strength of support staff of each forum and its actual strength.
