Based on the news stories published in the Daily News Papers, the Chhattisgarh High Court took suo-moto cognizance of the Malaria and Diarrhea outbreak in the State of Chhattisgarh and the resultant deaths occurred due to the lack of medical facilities in the remote parts of Chhattisgarh.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal issued notice to the State and directed its Chief Secretary to file an affidavit containing the particulars as to what steps are being taken by the State Government to prevent the spread of the outbreak in the State.

The Court also asked the State to make immediate arrangements at the places where there is an increase of Malaria and Diarrhea disease giving all medical facilities to the persons affected by them and also preventive measures should be taken so that there should not be a rapid spread.

The Court has taken cognizance after daily newspaper publishers reported an alarming rise in the Malaria and Diarrhea cases and deaths occurred due to a lack of medical facilities including the ambulances in remote villages of the State.

The report also claims that the people have to carry the patients on their shoulders with the assistance of bamboo sticks etc. to be shifted to the nearest Health Centers.

The Court expressed its concerns about the treatments given by the quacks to the people suffering from Malaria, wherein several people have lost their lives because of the treatment given by quack, who is not a skilled medical practitioner.

The matter is next posted on July 24, 2024.
