Calcutta High Court Expresses 'Anguish' Over Kolkata Police Commissioner's Failure To Submit Report In Contempt Case, Directs Virtual Presence

The Calcutta High Court has expressed anguish over the conduct of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal who failed to submit a report in a contempt case against him.

A single bench of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha directed Goyal to be personally present in virtual mode at the next hearing.

It was held that the alleged contemnor had not submitted a report as directed but instead, a report had been submitted by the Officer-in-charge of Kalighat Police Station.

This Court notices with anguish that Vineet Kumar Goyal, the Commissioner is the contemnor but he has not chosen to submit any report before this Court. This Court is of the view that the contemnor has not shown due respect to the High Court even in a contempt proceeding against him, the Bench noted.

Accordingly, the matter was adjourned to 22nd March, and the alleged contemnor was directed to be virtually present before the Court.
