The Bombay High Court on July 29, imposed a cost of Rs 4 crores on Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. for violating an injunction/ad-interim order of the Court, which had restrained the company from selling its camphor products in relation to a trademark infringement case filed by Mangalam Organics Ltd.

Patanjali now has a total of Rs 4.5 crores imposed on it.

Mangalam Organics had filed a commercial suit against Patanjali claiming passing off and copyright infringement of their camphor products. Through an ad-interim order dated 30.08.2023, the High Court had restrained Patanjali from selling the camphor products.

On July 08, the Court had directed Patanjali to deposit an amount of Rs. 50,00,000 to the Court. The Court had remarked that Patanjali itself admitted to supplying camphor products post the injunction order and thus had imposed the costs for breach of the injunction order.

Today, Justice RI Chagla imposed an additional Rs. 4 crores on Patanjali. The Court noted that Patanjali misled the Court by filing false affidavits through its Director Rajneesh Mishra.

It remarked that this was a fit case for sending the Director to prison, but did not proceed with it and imposed costs instead.

A detailed copy of the order is yet to be made available.

Case Title: Mangalam Organics Ltd. v. Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. & Ors.
