The Allahabad High Court has ordered the Superintendent of Police, Sultanpur to conduct an inquiry into the allegations levelled against a Station House Officer (SHO) of misbehaving with certain women and also beating an old man inside the police station.
The bench of Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice Narendra Kumar Johari passed this order while dealing with a writ plea filed by the petitioners (including certain women) alleging that when they went to the police station to get their statements recorded, the SHO Kurebhar, District Sultanpur misbehaved with them.
Essentially, the petitioners are accused in an FIR under Sections 353, 504, 506 and 34 of the IPC. Challenging the FIR, they had earlier moved the HC wherein their plea was disposed of by giving protection to them. Pursuant to this, they visited the police station to get their statements recorded.
However, as per their allegations, the SHO concerned misbehaved with women petitioners against their dignity and also thrashed the father of petitioner no. 1. They also claimed that the said incident was recorded by them in a camera and hence, in their plea, they sought action against the said officer.
In view of this, the Court directed the AGA to seek instruction in the matter from the opposite party no. 3- Superintendent of Police, Sultanpur. The SP concerned has also been directed to conduct an inquiry regarding an allegation of misbehaviour and also examine the CCTV footage, if any, of the Police Station before giving some instruction to the AGA.
The matter has now been listed for further hearing on 26th September 2023 as fresh.
