The Allahabad High Court on Thursday dismissed a writ plea filed seeking the removal of certain mantras of Brahman Bhag from Shukla Yajurveda Samhita.
The bench of Justice Vivek Chaudhary and Justice Manish Kumar observed that such relief can not be granted by the High Court.
Essentially, the bench was dealing with a writ plea filed by one Vidhu Shekhar Trivedi seeking a direction to the Union of India and the State of Uttar Pradesh to "immediately remove 75 fictitious mantras and 87 mantras" of Brahman Bhag from Shukla Yajurveda Sahhita.
It may be noted that Shukla Yajurveda Samhita contains over 1900 mantras and it contains a Brahmana text, the Shatapatha Brahmana.
Though the petitioner in person did not appear due to illness, the Court heard Senior Advocate Surya Bhan Pandey (D.S.G.I.) assisted by Advocate Varun Pandey for the Union of India and learned Standing Counsel for the State and dismissed the plea.
The Court categorically observed that such relief can neither be granted by the High Court nor the Union of India or the State of U.P. has any such power to delete any shlokas from any of the religious texts.
With this, the plea was dismissed.
