SC Collegium Recalls Proposal To Transfer Justice Avneesh Jhingan From Punjab & Haryana HC To Gujarat, Recommends Transfer To Rajasthan HC Instead

The Supreme Court Collegium on Tuesday proposed the transfer of Justice Avneesh Jhingan from Punjab & Haryana High Court to the Rajasthan High Court.

The Collegium in effect recalled its previous recommendation for his transfer to Gujarat High Court. It said,

"By a resolution dated 3 August 2023, this Collegium proposed transfer of Mr Justice Avneesh Jhingan, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana to the High Court of Gujarat. The recommendation has been pending with the Government since 11 August 2023.

On reconsideration and in supersession of the above recommendation, it is proposed to transfer Mr Justice Avneesh Jhingan, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana to the Rajasthan High Court." 

Born in 1969 to a family of lawyers, Justice Jhingan completed his graduation in Law from Panjab University in 1992 and was enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council for the States of Punjab and Haryana. He was elected as Chief Patron of the Punjab Tax Bar Association and was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in July 2017. He was sworn in as a Permanent Judge on December 3, 2018.
