    Mediation has developed into a mainstream dispute resolution process for commercial disputes. Business and commercial mediation has developed into a sophisticated form of managed negotiation, where the resolution has to satisfy the needs and interests of the parties and help to build great relationships. Lawyers are upskilling in areas that technology can't take over, such as mediation, negotiation and problem-solving. And research has found that commercial clients show a preference for mediators who can get them resolutions fast and in a business friendly manner. This is possible with the skills of an excellent mediator.

    Indian Institute of Arbitration & Mediation (IIAM) has announced its next “Professional Mediator Training Program”, which is an APCAM Certified Training Program. The entire training, which is a 55-hours / 7-days program, is designed in hybrid mode to make it convenient for busy professionals to undertake the program without seriously disrupting their regular schedules.

    The program is scheduled during 3 weeks as follows: First segment will be online for 2 days on negotiation, starting on Friday 2nd August and ending on Saturday 3rd August, 2024. Next segment will be conducted offline at IIAM Centre, Cochin, Kerala for 3 days, starting from Thursday 8th August and ending on Saturday 10th August 2024. This will be on mediation, comprising of multiple role plays. The last segment will be conducted online for 2 days, starting on Tuesday 13th August and ending on Wednesday 14th August, 2024, which will be on international mediation. Timing will be from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, online and 9:00 am to 6:30 pm, offline.

    IIAM Professional Mediator Training Program combines the art and science of mediation through highly interactive, skill-based courses in negotiation and mediation. The importance of private mediation in international business dispute resolution has been recognised by the United Nations by bringing out the Singapore Convention, in which India is also a signatory. Considering the importance of mediation and its relevance in international business, India has also enacted the Mediation Act, which will revolutionise justice delivery mechanism in the country. All this opens the door to a new global profession of an International Mediator and Mediation Advocate.

    As per IIAM Mediator Accreditation System, a candidate having successfully completed the Training Program is categorised as a Certified Commercial Mediator and will be eligible for empanelment as IIAM Mediator and also under the Peacegate App as a mediator attached with a Centre or as an online mediator, subject to the norms of empanelment. Being an APCAM Certified Training Program, the participant will also be eligible to apply for accreditation under the APCAM Accreditation norms, so that the participant would be empanelled in APCAM Centres (Asia Pacific Centre for Arbitration & Mediation | www.apcam.asia). APCAM, which is the only international centre having its presence in 8 countries, promote cross-border mediation and arbitration and help the business community to resolve their international commercial and business disputes by mediation or arbitration under a single set of Mediation and Arbitration Rules and with a uniform fee structure.
