NGT Directs Discontinuation Of Groundwater Extraction By Two Carpet Manufacturing Units In Rewari [Read Order]

The Principal Bench of National Green Tribunal has directed ground water being extracted without NOC and without any safeguards, by two carpet manufacturing units, in Rewari, Haryana, be discontinued, till NOC is given.
Bench led by Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel while hearing a petition filed by one Bhim Singh, passed the direction after going through the report filed by the State Pollution Control Board. As per the petition the two units M/s Uni Product (Pvt. Ltd.) and M/s Golden Tex Private Limited, were manufacturing carpets in District Rewari, Haryana generating carpet waste comprising of synthetic material which was burnt, causing air pollution. The said units also extracted ground water using submersible motor of 25 HP for commercial purpose,without any valid consent and without following any safeguards for recharge of the groundwater.
The SPCB report stated that "Respondent unit has not installed any Borewell/tubewell into their premises and require water for domestic purpose, which is being procured through pipeline from bore well installed 3-4 KM away (outside) from the premises of the unit. Unit falls under non notified area as per Guidelines dated 16.11.2015 issued by Central Ground Water Authority. Moreover, unit has applied to obtain NOC for using ground water.
