    The principal bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) has constituted a two member committee to submit a factual and action taken report on mobile towers in public parks of Faridabad installed in violation of Punjab Road and Controlled Areas Restriction of Unregulated Development Rule and environmental norms.

    Observing that “a substantial issue of environment has been raised”, the bench of Acting Chairperson Justice Sheo Kumar Singh and Dr. A. Senthil Vel said, “We deem it just and proper to call a report on the matter in issue in present Original Application, from a Joint Committee consisting of Commissioner Municipal Corporation, NIT, B.K. Chowk, Faridabad and One representative from State Pollution Control Board, Haryana.”

    We further direct the Committee to ensure that till further orders, no mobile towers should be installed in the park area in violation of Rules, added the bench.

    A Residents Welfare Society has filed the plea against alleged installation of mobile towers in public parks of Faridabad. It is submitted that the installation of such mobile towers is in violation of Section 4 of the Punjab Road and Controlled Areas Restriction of Unregulated Development Rules, 1965, as well as Section 42(8) and 43(p) of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, thereby adversely affecting the environment.

    Considering the allegations, the Tribunal issued notice to the respondents and formed a two member committee.

    The Committee is tasked with visiting the location and submitting the factual and action taken report within six weeks.

    The matter is listed for December 1, for further consideration.
