Floods: Due Date For Filing IT Returns For Kerala Tax-Payers Extended To 15th Sept

The Central Board of Direct Taxes, through a circular released on Tuesday, has extended the deadline for filing of income tax returns for taxpayers in Kerala.

The deadline has been extended from 31^st August to 15^th September, 2018. The extension has been granted in light of the disruption caused due to the severe floods in Kerala.

The order is in partial modification of the order dated 26^th July, 2018, where the board had extended the due date of filing from 31^st July to 31^st August 2018.

The order reads as follows:

‘In view of disruption caused due to severe floods in Kerala, in partial modification of order dated 26.07.2018 in file of even no., the Central Board of Direct Taxes, hereby, further extends the due date specified under clause (c) of Explanation 2 to Section 139(1) of the Income-Tax Act, 1961 for furnishing return of income, from 31^st August, 2018 to 15^th September, 2018, in case of income-tax assessees in the State of Kerala, who are liable to file their income-tax returns by 31^st August, 2018.’
