Women's Reservation Bill : Live Updates From Rajya Sabha

Hopefully, this bill will bring nari shakti into our Parliament and lead to better policy and decision-making, because reservation for women in local bodies has definitely led to better developmental outcomes and better investment in issues concerning women.

#Congress MP Phulo Devi Netam says this bill was former PM Rajiv Gandhi's dream, which was passed by Rajya Sabha under former PM Manmohan Singh -

"Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi have been writing to this govt urging it to introduce the bill. It has taken them 9.5 yrs, but der aaye durust aaye."

Chaturvedi: They could have brought the 2010 bill. This would have been applicable from next Lok Sabha elections. Look at 73rd and 74th amendments. They were implemented immediately.

The govt is opening doors for women, but women are also being told they cannot enter for another 7 years

Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi: We support this bill. But there are two issues: Despite making poll promises, #BJP took 9.5 yrs to bring this bill. Nadda ji also said this is only way we can give women reservation, I disagree.
