    Supreme Court to continue hearing today the petition filed by Zakia Jafri challenging the SIT's clean chit to the then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi & other high functionaries in the #GujaratRiots of 2002.

    A Bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar is hearing the matter.

    On Wednesday, Mr. Mukul Rohatgi, appearing on behalf of SIT, emphatically submitted that the SIT had conducted an impeccable investigation and on certain occasions went beyond their means to meet the ends of justice. Over a course of seven days, a Bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar had heard the detailed submissions of Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal demonstrating the failure of SIT in investigating the matter.

      Rohatgi: How many parallel proceedings to go on? A criminal case is going on in Gulberg, Nanavati Commission is also examining, SIT is also examining. This is not what the Court meant when it said 'look into' the complaint.

      Rohatgi: Within one hour of the riots, a curfew was imposed.I am reading this to show the meticulousness of the investigation. Minute by minute is the examination of the SIT. Wherever it was possible these phones were examined. SIT is critical of the role of Tandon.

      Rohatgi: He is convicted for planting narcotics in the room of a lawyer in Gujarat. I am personally aware because I had appeared in these cases.

      Rohatgi: RB Shreekumar, Rahul Sharma and Sanjeev - The entire case revolves around these three people. These three people’s testimony and 9 affidavits filed by Shreekumar before Nanavati Commission - They are the star witnesses of this complaint and protest petition.

      Rohatgi: This is not the job of SIT to see who was transferred, why they were transferred. Still they examined. Those who transferred were all examined, but they did not want to make any comments on the transfer.

      Mr. Rohatgi reading out the SIT’s conclusion on Sreekumar, calling his statement motivated.
