    Former Kerala High Court judge, Justice Alexander Thomas has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Kerala State Human Rights Commission.

    The recommendation to appoint the Former Acting Chief Justice of the Kerala HC as Chairperson of the State Human Rights Commission has been approved by the Governor.

    Mr. Byjunath has been the Acting Chairman of the Commission after the tenure of former Chairperson Justice Antony Dominic ended in 2023. He was appointed as a judicial member of the Commission in 2021 while he was the District and Sessions Judge in Kalpetta.

    Even though the Governor had approved the appointment of former Chief Justice of Kerala High Court S. Manikumar for the position, Justice Manikumar had refused the appointment.

    Justice Alexander Thomas was a Judge of the Kerala High Court from 2014 to 2023. He had a brief stint as the Acting Chief Justice in July 2023 for 10 days.
