Merit And Future Of Students Will Not Be Impacted By The Improvement Exam: State Govt Tells Andhra Pradesh High Court

The State government told the Andhra Pradesh High Court yesterday that the betterment examination proposed to be held in order to give an opportunity to the students who want to improve their marks, would not affect the relevant merit or the future of the students in any manner.

Advocate V Sai Kumar appearing for the petitioner student had vehemently opposed the proposed holding of betterment examination for 1st and 2nd year intermediate students commencing from 15.09.2021.

The petitioner stated that this decision was against the order of the Apex Court in W.P. (Civil) No.620/2021 dated 24.06.2021, wherein direction were given to all the State Boards to ensure that Schemes were formulated and notified at the earliest  to declare the results as per internal assessment.

Justice U Durga Prasad Rao was further told that no such scheme had been formulated by the respondent for holding the examination.  

To this, Standing Counsel E. Shanthasree had replied that the exams were being held to give an opportunity to the students who wanted to appear for the examination and improve their marks, and the anyone could appear for the examination, but there was no compulsion.

The respondent further sought time for filing a detailed counter. 

While making it clear that the Intermediate Board examinations for 1st and 2nd year proposed to be conducted by the respondent would be subject to the result of the instant writ petition, the Court posted the matter for September 29.
