Kolkata Court Grants Bail To Ex-RG Kar Principal, Police Officer Abhijit Mondal Due To CBI's Failure To File Chargesheet In Timely Manner

In a new development related to the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar medical college and hospital, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sealdah, has granted bail to former principal of the college Sandip Ghosh, and former OC of the jurisidictional police station Abhijit Mondal, who were arrested for conspiring to cover-up the incident.
The ACJM granted bail to the parties upon observing that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had failed to file its chargesheet against them within the statutory time limit of 90 days.
Earlier, while taking on record the CBI's report on the investigation into the rape and murder of the doctor, the Supreme Court had observed that the trial in the case would be likely to be concluded within one month.
