The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has notified an amendment to the Import Policy Condition under the Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020 (FTP) to allow the import of watermelon seeds from Kandla and Mundra Ports till September 30, 2022.
The current policy restricts the import of watermelon seeds. However, according to the amended import rules, watermelon seeds are "free" until September 30, 2022.
The DGFT notified that shipments of watermelon seeds made by September 30, 2022 from the exporting countries may be allowed for clearance at Indian Customs ports. The shipments will be cleared when the Bill of Entry is filed and the goods are handed over to the customs authority for examination by October 31, 2022.
"The imports of watermelon seeds shall be permitted from Kandla (INIXY1) and Mundra (INMUN1) ports only," the notification read.
