The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC)has notified the Deputy DRI or Assistant DRI to act as the proper officer under the Customs.

The CBIC has issued amendments to its earlier issued Notification No. 26/2022-Customs (N.T) dated March 31, 2022, which assigned certain officers in relation to the functions under the Customs Act, 1962.

The Board has added New SI. No. 4A to NN. 26/2022 (Customs) to designate the Deputy Director of Revenue Intelligence or Assistant Director of Revenue Intelligence as the proper official under Section 109A of the Customs Act, 1962.

Section 9A of the Customs Act, 1962 relates to the power to require production of an order permitting clearance of goods imported by land. Any officer of customs appointed for any area adjoining the land frontier of India may require any person in possession of any goods which the officer has reason to believe to have been imported into India by land to produce the order made under section 47 permitting clearance of the goods.
