On Sunday, the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh unanimously passed a resolution seeking the transfer of Justice Sangeeta Chandra from the Allahabad High Court to another High Court.

The resolution also states that Justice Chandra should not be assigned any judicial work until she is transferred.

The Council has also supported a letter of the Oudh Bar Association's General Secretary, Advocate Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, addressed to the High Court's Chief Justice seeking Justice Chandra's transfer.

This letter was written following an order passed by Justice Chandra-led division bench on September 27 recommending criminal contempt proceedings against Senior Counsel Satish Chandra Mishra.

In his letter to the Chief Justice, Oudh Bar Association's General Secretary stated that Justice Chandra went against the dignity of her office by issuing an order initiating criminal contempt of court proceedings against Senior Advocate SC Mishra.

In its resolution, the State Bar Council has also mentioned that many of its members had informed it that Justice Chandra, while serving not only in the Lucknow Bench but also in the Allahabad High Court, had insulted the advocates.

It may be noted that Criminal Contempt Proceedings have been recommended against Senior Counsel SC Mishra after the bench found that the Senior Counsel had "scandalised" the court and "lowered its dignity" by casting aspersions on the conduct of court proceedings and making personal accusations of malice.
