    Supreme Court to hear the petition filed by Teesta Setalvad seeking bail in the Gujarat Police FIR over alleged fabrication of documents to file cases in relation to 2002 Gujarat riots.

    Teesta's petition challenging the Gujarat High Court's refusal to grant her bail was heard by a bench consisting of Chief Justice U.U. Lalit, Justice S Ravindra Bhat and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia.

    In the last hearing of the matter, the bench indicated that it will grant interim bail to Teesta Setalvad but ultimately adjourned the hearing at the repeated requests made by Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta.

      SG : I have to as a government lawyer, as prosecutor point out the facts. An earlier date could have been given, I don't object. My purpose of showing you this was that if impression was given to someone that petitioner was singled out, that's wrong.

      CJI Lalit : It does not appear to be any matter of a lady.

      Kapil Sibal : I have a list of 28 matters by the same judge, bail granted in few days.

      SG : 33 returnable matters on Augsut 3. Certain matters were auto-listed. I enquired what was it. CJI has introduced. If there are defects, time is given to cure. Beacuse the person in jail would not know.

      SG : What happened on August 3? In my submission, the High Court rightly continued with the uniform practice adopted in view of the number of matters listed, it gave a reasonable date.

      SG : Yesterday, your lordship rightly raised a concern about the returnable date of the High Court. The message which went was that she was singled out. I know it was never intended, it was reported that way.

      SG : I have enquired, I just want to show that HC uniformly did what HC does with everyone.
