    The Supreme Court will continue hearing today the petitions challenging NEET-UG 2024 exam.

    Petitioners completed their arguments yesterday. The bench led by CJI will hear the responses of Union/NTA today.

      CJI : we proceed to record the essential conclusions

      (1) the fact that the leak of NEET UG paper 2024 is not in dispute;

      (2) post the transfer of the investigation, CBI has filed 6 reports dated 10 July , 17 July, 21 July 2024

      (3) Disclosures indicate the investigation is continuing, however CBI indicated the as per the present materials about 155 students drawn from the exam centres at Hazaribagh and Patna appeared to be beneficiaries of the fraud

      CJI: arguments have been concluded and judgment has been reserved. In the matter like the present it is imperative that the final conclusions of the court be recorded at the present stage since there is an urgent need to provide certainty and finality to a dispute which affects the career of over 2 million students

      CJI: my the interim order dated July 8 2024, while flagging the principle issues in convention, this court had called for a disclosure by NTA, Union and by the CBI.

      CJI: submission by the petitioners is that the leak which took place in course of the NEET UG Exam is systemic in nature and coupled with the structural deficiencies in the modalities of the exam, the only course of action permissible in view of this course and in the decision of Tanvi Sarwal vs Central Board Of Secondary Education is to direct a re-examination

      CJI: the 50 percentile represents the cut of for qualification. The examination consists of 180 question 4 marks each, making total of 720 marks overall, one negative mark assigned for each incorrect answer

      CJI: the NEET 2024 percentile has worked out to 164 out 720 marks. all candidates who obtained at least a threshold of 164 marks are thus qualified for being considered for admission. The seats are allotted for among the General Categories and reserved categories like SC/ST/OBC/EWS etc

      CJI: petitioner sought that the directions should be issued for convening a retest on the ground (1) the question paper was leaked; (2) there are systemic deficiencies in the modalities conducted for the examination

      CJI: 23 lakh 33 thousand candidates appeared for the exam. They are competing for 1.08 Lakh seats of which 56000 seats are in govt hospital, balance 52000 being in private institution
