Only regular hearing matters, apart from ten each transfer petitions and bail applications, will be heard on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Supreme Court from now onwards.

The practice of listing "after notice miscellaneous matters" on Wednesdays and Thursdays will be stopped. They would be accommodated only on miscellaneous days (Mondays and Fridays) subject to the availability of slot.

“It is hereby notified for information of the Members of the Bar, Party-in-Person and all concerned that the Competent Authority has been pleased to direct that henceforth Wednesday and Thursday of the week shall be regular hearing days and no "after notice miscellaneous matter" shall be listed on both these days. However, up to 10 transfer petitions and 10 bail matters shall be listed along with regular hearing matters on these days. The miscellaneous after notice matters noted for these days shall be accommodated on the miscellaneous days to be followed, subject to availability of slot.”

For the uninitiated, miscellaneous days in the Supreme Court are meant for admission hearings, which allow counsel to make preliminary submissions to convince the court to admit their petition. The other days in the week are meant for final hearing matters and are called non-miscellaneous days, or ‘NMD’ in Supreme Court lawyers’ parlance. However, certain miscellaneous matters, after completion of notice, used to get listed on NMDs.
