The Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna today (December 10) said that regular matters will now be listed from January 2025 onwards considering the 'huge pendency in the after-notice matters'.
During the morning session, a counsel mentioned an Insolvency matter and requested for constituting a larger bench to consider the questions of law involved. The CJI replied by saying that matters of regular nature like these would be listed in January and presently the Court would focus on clearing the pendency of after-notice matters.
"There is a huge pendency in the after-notice matters. In January we will start dealing with normal matters," CJI said.
Notably, a new notification was issued on November 16 which stated that regular hearing matters will not be listed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Instead, miscellaneous matters in which notice has been issued will be listed on these days. Bail matters and transfer petitions will also be listed.
As per the system in the Supreme Court, admission matters (miscellaneous matters) are generally listed on Mondays and Fridays. Tuesdays-Thursdays are for regular hearing matters, where final hearings take place. Also, miscellaneous matters in which notice has been issued are also listed as per the orders of the bench.
