    Supreme Court to continue hearing today the petition filed by Zakia Jafri challenging the SIT's clean chit to the then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi & other high functionaries in the #GujaratRiots of 2002.

    A Bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar will take up the part-heard matter for further hearing. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi for SIT will continue his arguments today.
    Recapitulating his submissions so far, Senior Advocate, Mr Mukul Rohatgi, highlighted that the Petitioner is relying on the affidavits, testimonies of three-star witnesses namely, Shreekumar, Rahul Sharma and Sanjiv Bhatt. As per Mr Rohatgi, the complaint is replete with the statements made by these witnesses in affidavits before the Nanavati Commission.
    Yesterday, referring to the order of the Supreme Court dated 12.09.2011 as the 'pole star', Mr Rohatgi reiterated that the remit imposed on SIT was to 'look into' the complaint of Zakia  in order to find additional material in the Gulberg matter

      Rohatgi: [TC noted] The investigating agency has raised doubt about the register. No mention of the register in first two affidavits filed before the Nanavati Commission. It was made available only after he was superseded. It goes into every small detail.

      Rohatgi: Court found there was no criminality. The post mortem on the side and transfer and delivery had no criminality. The third allegation is about the two ministers - Ashok Bhatt and Jadeja. Why there were in the control room? This has been argued, discussed

      Rohatgi: It is for the first time before your lordship they have decided not to urge this. This is major point in complaint, in the report. At 223, I read point no. 2 the issue of parading, post-mortem, delivery of bodies. I had read this is details. I have finished this point.

      Rohtagi: I had started with Trial Court order and I had gone, kindly turn to 1st allegation. This is the meeting of 27.02.2002 not urged by the other side. So, I did not read it.
