Former Orissa High Court Judge Justice Purna Chandra Mishra Passes Away

Justice Mishra was born on 24^th December, 1932. He was enrolled as a pleader on 10^th October, 1955 and as an advocate on 16^th February, 1959. He predominantly practised at Cuttack from November, 1955. He was appointed as the Standing Counsel for Orissa Board of Wakfs in 1975. He also served as the Standing Counsel for Central Government from 15^th May, 1978 to 24^th September, 1981.

Apart from that, he was appointed as a Legal Adviser to Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on 8^th August, 1977. Before being elevated as a Judge of the Orissa High Court on 1^st June 1983, he also served as the Senior Standing Counsel for the Food Corporation of India (FCI). He retired as a Judge of the Orissa High Court on 23^rd December 1994.

He has authored manifold landmark judgments on different aspects of law. Many legal luminaries have expressed grief over the demise of the 'gentleman judge', as he is popularly known in the legal fraternity of Odisha.

He is survived by his son Advocate Arun Kumar Mishra, son-in-law and former Advocate General Mr. Surya Prasad Mishra and other family members.
