The President of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh has written a letter to the office bearers of all bar associations of the state informing them that the Council has condemned the recent lathi charge violence against advocates in Ghaziabad Court (Uttar Pradesh) allegedly at the behest of a District Court Judge.
“The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh strongly opposes this incident and after watching the video clipping, strongly condemns the conduct of the District Judge, Ghaziabad and strongly opposes his act,” a letter by Council's president Shiv Kishore Gaur reads.
In the letter, the Council also informed us that it has formed a five-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter and submit a report so that strict action can be taken against any judicial, administrative, or police officer found guilty. Further, the Council has also decided to hold a protest on 4 November 2024.
The Council has also decided that the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court will be informed as soon as possible about the conduct of the District Judge, Ghaziabad, and the anger of the state advocates.
Several videos of the incident are going viral on social media wherein police officials could be seen resorting to lathi-charge to disperse the lawyers inside the courtroom. At the same time, the lawyers could be seen throwing chairs.
The incident occurred after some lawyers approached the District Judge in a case related to the office bearers of the Bar Association. The matter was related to bail. However, an argument broke out between the lawyers and the District Judge during the hearing, after which the Judge called the police inside the courtroom.
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has also passed a resolution condemning the lathi charge action of the police. The SCBA has also sought an inquiry against the Judge.
