'VIPs Should Be Equal To Common People' : Advocates Association Writes To CJI Over Early Listing Of BJP Leader's Bail Application

In a letter written to  Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, the association said, “The usual practice in the High Court of Karnataka is that new matters like anticipatory bail take several days and weeks for posting. However, VIP matters are entertained overnight"

“This practice would lead to the common man losing faith in the judicial system. It is of utmost importance that a MLA should be treated as a common man", the letter stated further.

The BJP MLA had approached the Karnataka High Court on Monday(March 6) seeking anticipatory bail in a corruption case. The next day, the application was heard and the MLA was granted interim anticipatory bail.

The Association has urged the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court to follow this example in all cases to post all anticipatory bail applications in one day "so that the common man is treated as a VIP"

“It is essential that the temple of justice be equal to all and any VIP must have to wait just as the common man and in this regard the Advocates Association, Bengaluru, expresses serious shock and concern over the matter", it said.

In a related development, a city civil court in Bengaluru passed an ex-parte interim order to restrain prominent media houses from publishing defamatory opinion against Virupakshappa in relation to the corruption case.
