Dharmashastra National Law University's faculty member, namely Mr. Utkarsh K. Mishra, Assistant Professor of Law and Director, Centre for Studies in International Trade and Investment Laws (CITIL) and his team of four undergraduate students namely Mr. Saurav Tiwari, Ms. Nehal Yadav, Ms. Poorva Sharma, Mr. Vasujit Dubey, students of B.A, LL. B (Hons.) have been invited by the World Trade Organization (WTO) to present their individual research work before the World Trade Organization in Geneva in June, 2025. The student's participation has been ensured by the WTO on fully funded basis.
This invitation follows the organization of the International Conference on 'Gender Dimensions in International Trade' in August 2024, led by Prof. Manoj K. Sinha (Vice Chancellor), Dr. Praveen Tripathi (Registrar), Prof. (Dr.) Shailesh N. Hadli (Professor of Law), and Mr. Utkarsh K. Mishra. The conference was held in collaboration with the WTO's Trade and Gender Unit and the Centre for Trade and Investment Law, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi, was conducted under the WTO Chairs Programme. The event featured Anoush Der Boghossian, Senior Designate Official from the WTO, as the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker.
Scheduled from 24 to 27 June 2025, the WTO will organise the second edition of the World Trade Congress on Gender, entitled "Gender Equality and Innovation, the Keys to Sustainable Trade", to be held at the WTO's headquarters, in Geneva, Switzerland. This WTO biennial international research conference on trade and gender is organized in partnership with UN Women as well as jointly with the WTO Gender Research Hub. In a mix of high-level sessions, networking events and technical discussions, the Congress' main objective is to support the formulation of gender-responsive trade policies built on research and data, to pioneer and deepen research on how women's empowerment can fuel innovation and how trade can be a driver for this change.
DNLU's participation in this event underscores its commitment to academic excellence and research-driven learning. The selection of these students and faculty members among only 45 researchers from a global pool of 200 applicants is a testament to their scholarly contributions.
Additionally, earlier this year, Mr. Utkarsh K. Mishra was invited to join the WTO's Gender Research Hub as a Member and Expert, further strengthening DNLU's global academic footprint.
