Madurai Bench Of Madras High Court Bar Association To Abstain From Work On July 5 Opposing Implementation Of New Criminal Laws

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court Bar Association has decided to abstain from work and from attending courts on the 5th of July (Friday) as part of the opposition against the sudden implementation of the New Criminal Laws.
The resolution, issued by the General Secretary M Saravana Kumar states that the MMBA, in its general meeting held on 2nd July took the unanimous decision to register its opposition. The resolution also asked its members to adhere to the above.
“The MMBA, in its General Meeting on 02.07.2024, unanimously resolved to register its opposition to the sudden enforcement of the Three New Criminal Laws (Acts Nos. 45,46, and 47 of 2023), and to take out Memoranda to the Union Government in that regard, and also to abstain from wok/attending courts for One Day on Friday, 5th July 2024. Members are requested to adhere to the above,” the resolution read.
Notably, on June 26, 2024, the Bar Council of India had appealed to all Bar Associations to refrain from protests and agitations against new criminal laws. The BCI had assured the legal fraternity that it will take up the concerns of the bar members seriously and will convey the concerns of the lawyers to the Union Home Ministry and the Union Law Ministry.
