The Kerala Police has opposed the quashing petition filed by Rahul P Gopal, accused in the infamous Pantheerankavu domestic violence case, stating that his wife was seriously injured when she came to the police station and the alleged compromise between the parties must be an outcome of pressure and threats.

Rahul allegedly attempted to strangle his wife using cable wire, after she failed to fulfil his dowry demands. The 29-year-old and his family are booked under Sections 324, 498A, 307 and 212 of IPC. His wife however uploaded a YouTube video stating that the allegations against her husband are false.

As per the affidavit filed by ACP of Kozhikode's Feroke Sub Division, medical evidence confirms injuries on her body. He said it is "unbelievable" that the woman settled and apprehended that her statement may have been given under "intimidation or threat".

"...definitely there would be further torture from him (Rahul) even if they co habit in future. The accused Rahul's presence is necessary for investigation of the case and for successful prosecution. He is financially sound and try to threaten and influence the material witnesses including the defacto-complainant," the affidavit read.

ACP said the investigation is nearing its completion and since Rahul is absconding, procedures have already been initiated to deport him to India and impound his passport.

Previously, the matter had come up before Justice A. Badharudeen who directed the Public Prosecutor to get instructions from the State authorities.

The plea was moved by Adv. Manas P. Hameed
