    The Kerala High Court directed the Kozhikode District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) to render all necessary assistance to the family of the minor child Drishana to help them submit claims to get victim compensation for being a road accident victim.

    Reportedly, 9-year-old Drishana got hit by a moving car in February 2024. The vehicle did not stop after the accident. She has been in a state of coma since then and currently undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. The vehicle that was involved in the accident is still unknown. The court took suo moto case in the matter after news media reported the incident.

    The case was before the Division Bench of Justice Anil K. Narendran and Justice P. G. Ajithkumar.

    The Court while dictating the order made the following direction to DLSA

    Having considered the materials on record and also the submissions made at the bar, we deem it appropriate to direct the Secretary of the 4th respondent, District Legal Services Authority shall personally interact with the family members of the minor child named Drishana tomorrow itself and render them necessary assistance to submit claims for getting victim compensation under the relevant statutory provision/ applicable scheme.”

    The Court impleaded the Superintendent, Medical College Hospital Kozhikode and the Sub-Collector Kozhikode as respondents. The Court asked the Superintendent to submit a report to the Court. The Court asked the State to direct the Superintendent and other authorities to render all medical support to the child.
