The Calcutta High Court has orally remarked that the advent of live streaming of court proceedings on YouTube has led to a situation where petitioners-in person are causing a "ruckus."

Justice Tirthankar Ghosh made these comments while hearing a case being presented by a petitioner in-person.

When Justice Ghosh questioned the petitioner, stating that an advocate had earlier been engaged by him and had appeared in the matter as well, the petitioner stated that although an advocate was engaged, he was appearing in-person on this occasion since he was unwell.

"How are you appearing now? You had engaged a lawyer...get a signed authorisation from the registrar general. How can I allow this? Otherwise anybody will appear in anybody's case," the judge remarked.

The petitioner further stated that he was an advocate as well. To this the bench said, "Then how have you come like this? You have not even come dressed as an advocate...Everybody is spoiling the decorum of the court...You have got to have an identification."

Accordingly, the court adjourned the plea, and asked the petitioner to file an affidavit before the registrar general.
